Hair Stylists Can Use Technology to Improve Their Client Retention

I recently read an article on Entrepreneur.com from late 2006, that talked about the growing trend of small businesses utilizing technology to improve their relationship with their customers. Although the article is a few years old, the message is still relevant, especially in this economy. Small businesses need to be doing whatever they can to find and retain customers. Technology can help.

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools have been widely used by large businesses in their Sales, Marketing, and Billing Departments, but smaller businesses have had a more difficult time adopting client management software because it was either too costly or it wasn’t designed for their type of business and it was difficult and expensive to modify. Today there are niche applications and websites that cater to small businesses. Some of these, like StylistOne.com are specialized for a particular industry. StylistOne.com started out as a site for Hair Stylists to manage their appointments and keep in touch regularly with customers, but they have added features that expand the site for use by Fashion Stylists and Custom Clothiers. These technology tools enhance the client relationship and make it easier for customers to book an appointment with their stylist. How many times have I heard someone say, “I have to get my hair done, I need to call the salon.” StylistOne.com provides a personalized web page for each user that allows their customers to request appointments online. They have recently launched a mobile version where customers can request an appointment using their iPhone or Blackberry. As technology becomes more pervasive, service businesses that use these technology tools will have an advantage over their competition.

Really cool. Ya’ll should consider generating an API so that users can access the tools via an SMS system. It allows a mobile system while avoiding the necessity of iPhones of Blackberries.
